Project details
Shalom Medical Clinic is social enterprise and a medical centre which opened in and started operating in June 2023, located in Kitgum municipality northern Uganda.
Since then, the clinic has since grown to provide the following:
1. General medicine – outpatient dispensary services, diagnosing and treating/managing common illnesses like Malaria, Enteric Fever, Brucellosis, routine health check-ups, gynecological cases, minor surgeries, and child health care.
2.Laboratory Services – microscopy and rapid diagnostic services, including but not limited to, Malaria testing, Typhoid widal testing, Brucella Agglutination testing, Urine/Stool analysis, Pregnancy testing, H.pylori test for peptic ulcer disease, HIV testing, HeBsAg for Hepatitis B, sperm count, Blood grouping, Random blood sugar.
3. Home Nursing/Care Visits – for minor cases that can be managed in the comfort of a patient’s home.
4. Minor Operations – simple procedures like stitching cuts and laceration injuries, Manual Vacuum Aspiration for management of spontaneous abortion, Dilation and curettage.
5. Guidance and counselling – available for chronic conditions that affect the pyscho-social domain of an individual.
With your help, we hope to expand the clinic to support…
1. Health Education – currently, health advice and education is provided at consultation, including scope of tests and treatments. Future plans would involve establishing a Community-Based Organization focused on health educations via schools and public engagement initiatives.
2. Selected Specialist Services – this vision would host specific days on which specialists attend to conditions beyond general expertise. e.g. ophthalmology, orthopedics and traumatology, & dental services.
3. Patient Capacity/Admissions – expanding current inpatient capacity of 2 beds would reduce waiting times and establish an infrastructure strong enough to support a greater number of patients.
